As the Left pushes failed policies, Republicans will continue investing in strong children by placing their educational needs over political priorities.

In November 2024, Tennessee voters overwhelmingly elected a Republican supermajority to the General Assembly to fight illegal immigration, improve education and build upon the Volunteer State’s legacy of freedom, equality and prosperity.
The General Assembly delivered meaningful results for all Tennessee residents during this legislative session.
Conservatives worked hard to demagnetize our state from the dangerous consequences of former President Joe Biden’s unlawful border policies. We also invested in public safety to address violent crime, advanced merit-based policies and secured education freedom for all Tennessee children.
Voters across the Volunteer State broadly support these policies. Still, Democrats tried and failed to thwart our efforts in favor of fewer choices for Tennessee parents, weak immigration policies and loosened penalties for criminals.
Tennessee Democrats place politics before policy
One common thread emerged throughout the legislative session: Republicans in the General Assembly work with nature to enact laws that promote the common good; Democrats work against nature to support policies that inflict violence upon our communities.

Democrat lawmakers, for example, voted against bills to ease the process of voting rights restoration, add social media and internet safety instruction to state curriculum, and to enhance the penalty for knowingly possessing fentanyl in the presence of a child, among many others.
In addition, no Democrat in the Tennessee General Assembly voted for a law I passed to honor our founding principles by designating the months of June, July and August in Tennessee as months to celebrate life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. June is now officially “Celebration of Life” Month, July is “Celebration of Liberty” Month, and August is “Celebration of the Pursuit of Happiness” Month in the Volunteer State.
It’s a sad reality that elected American officials refused to honor our nation’s founding principles and shared heritage.
The same is true of a new law I passed this session to provide Tennessee students with instruction on a life plan that is proven to help young adults flourish. The Success Sequence Act, which takes effect on July 1, 2026, will update our state’s family life curriculum by adding instruction on the success sequence.

The sequence consists of obtaining a high school degree, then entering the workforce or pursuing a post-secondary degree, then getting married, and then having children, in that order.
The Success Sequence is backed by data and broad-base support
This evidence overwhelmingly demonstrates that young adults who follow this sequence have an exponentially higher probability of success. According to the American Enterprise Institute, ninety-seven percent of millennials who adhered to this order of life events avoided poverty in adulthood.
The nuclear family is likely the most important institution in the world. It provides a stable environment for all children to thrive. Studies show that kids raised by a married mother and father are healthier, earn higher grades and are less likely to have behavior or emotional issues.
The incredible benefits of the nuclear family and the success sequence are well-known, which is why 76% of American parents, including 70% of Democratic voters, support teaching it in public schools. We should all want to provide students with the tools necessary to succeed during school and after graduation.
