Honoring George Washington’s 293rd Birthday & Wilbur the Pig’s Legacy at AMERICA 250! Kickoff

Murfreesboro, TN – The Colonel Hardy Murfree Chapter, NSDAR, cordially invites you to the Rutherford County kickoff of AMERICA 250! at the Batey Farm (5331 Baker Rd., Murfreesboro). It is at 2:00PM this Saturday afternoon, Feb. 22, 2025.
Learn about the semi-quincentennial of the American Revolution; a salute to George Washington’s 293rd birthday, and remembrance of Wilbur the Pig, who was born, grew up, and became famous on the Batey Farm. When he was just a few weeks old, the piglet was hand-picked by E.B. White’s granddaughter to appear on the 2006 edition of “Charlotte’s Web.”
There will be a reception at the conclusion of the ceremony. Event Chair Andrea Calfee has created an afternoon event that will be enjoyed by young and old. If you have questions, phone Andrea at 615-496-0529 or email akcalfee@yahoo.com.
Saturday’s event will take place on the Batey Farm, the final resting place of Captain William Batey, a veteran of the Revolutionary War and progenitor of the Batey family of Rutherford County. The farm, established in 1807, is one of the oldest ‘Century Farms’ in Rutherford County. Captain William Batey served valiantly in the Revolutionary War, contributing to the fight for American independence.
