Tunneling in Nashville
There’s lots of ruckus over Elon Musk wanting to build a tunnel under Nashville. I’m guessing it’s the East Nashville libs that voted in an illegal Alien loving socialist mayor. Elon is a good friend of my president Trump and that’s enough reason to stop the tunnel.
But, if they don’t like the tunnel, then why are they ok with what we currently have ?
Turning back time , tunnels were a necessity for a few reasons.
For example The Cadaver Tunnel. Where they also made sauerkraut. So why did we call the Germans during the war, sauerkrauts.?
This tunnel comes with one of the creepiest stories: that of cadavers being wheeled underground from one building to another across Rutledge Hill, south of downtown. This area used to be home to a pair of medical universities, the first city hospital, the morgue, and Litterer Laboratory .
The other possibility for a connection is Lindsley Hall, across the street. It used to be a medical college .
The Rutledge donated the land on 4 th ave for our 1 st city cemetery.
Possibly, more cadavers are still there.
Here is a good one, The River Tunnel.
Wonder why it was also called the “Prohibition tunnel” I thinks possibly it was used to smuggle liquor in and out of downtown Nashville. . The Southern Turf and others were right there on 3 rd and Broad.
MIDDLE TENNESSEE’S PREMIER DERMATOLOGIST
Dr. Ronald “Junior” Nelson, MD and the team at Stones River Dermatology and Aesthetics offer top-quality skin care and aesthetic treatments across three convenient Middle Tennessee locations.
But when I looked at it, I thought it made sense as a possible connection to the state capitol. This thinking was largely based on its position beneath the Gay Street Connector.
But why a tunnel from the river to the Capital?
What possible reason?
Top 5 Creepiest Tunnels Beneath Nashville
Here is another interesting one. It doesn’t make sense. A very large tunnel but what was this tunnel for?
Even stepping inside it doesn’t tell the answer.
Court house records show what used to be the block above the tunnel. It was known as Front Street and 1st Avenue North over the years.
Eventually, it became the city’s first electricity and streetcar companies.
Here is one I’m pretty sure I understand .
It’s beneath the world famous Printer’s Alley
If there’s one tunnel that has the most rumors, yup, it’s the one beneath historic Printer’s Alley.
This area was the home of gambling, booze, prostitution and every other other “debauchery.” ( I like this word.)
This tunnel predates Prohibition and connects several basements. Beneath one building, there’s an old bank vault.
I’ve been there and seen this vault. It’s huge. If I remember correctly,it’s beneath the Old Southern Turf, which is now the Frank Sinatra Bar.
Interestingly, there are small connections between all of these places.
One cave that’s not public and one that I’m personally aware of is on Fatherland street going to the Cumberland river. I visited with the owner of the home, who showed me the entrance in his basement.
It was tall enough for a horse to walk through.
And I’ve never been in this one or seen it , but the owner told me about it. It runs from the Hobson pike area to Walter hill. According to him the union troups, used it to move into the Murfreesboro area.
The off spring of the local slaves created the Couchville community. There were several tunnels there to hide in. They were forced out by eminent domain and the tunnels are filled by Percy Priest lake now.
So, let’s back off Elon. He’s probably going to use these tunnels. Well maybe.
