Protect Yourself: 9 Essential Tips to Avoid Financial Scams

How to Protect Yourself

Safeguarding our members’ information from fraudulent activity is a top priority for us. To help you stay one step ahead of potential threats, we have compiled a list of helpful tips you can use to protect yourself from scammers.

A financial representative will never:

Never click on links from untrusted sources.

Never provide account data or personal information.

Be wary if they insist you take immediate action.

Avoid grandparent scams.

Don’t trust caller ID.

Avoid the call forwarding scam.

Never send money to someone you don’t know.

If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

Monitor your accounts regularly.

Advance Consent Agreement

Since elderly members can be particularly vulnerable to becoming a victim of a financial crime, members aged 65 years or older can benefit from an additional layer of account protection with an Advance Consent Agreement. By voluntarily signing the form, the member authorizes your financial institution to contact a listed “trusted contact” in the event the institution suspects fraud or abuse. Speak with a financial representative to learn more.
