Big Lots Bankruptcy Update: 200 Stores to Continue Operations

Gordon Brothers Retail Partners has identified 200 Big Lots locations that are expected to remain open under new ownership, according to a Monday filing in Delaware’s U.S. Bankruptcy Court.

Variety Wholesalers, Inc., a North Carolina-based retail company, plans to acquire these locations as part of a broader agreement announced in December 2023. The deal, which could eventually include up to 400 stores, would maintain these locations under the Big Lots brand name, according to Fast Company.

Variety Wholesalers, which currently operates over 400 stores including Roses Discount stores, Roses Express, Maxway, Bill’s Dollar Stores, and Bargain Town in the Mid-Atlantic and Southeast regions, is set to assume the leases and contracts for the designated locations. Interested parties have until 4 p.m. on February 18 to file any objections to the transfer.

According to Fast Company, additional locations may be added to the agreement.
