About Us

WHO WE ARE
Why The Tennessee Ledger Exists
After personally experiencing bias in mainstream media and recognizing the growing need for journalism free from corporate and partisan control, Mike created The Tennessee Ledger to give Tennesseans a trusted, local source of news.
“Six corporations control 90% of American media. Think about that. Just six entities deciding what 330 million Americans see, hear, and believe—corporations that, I believe, profit from keeping us divided.
I experienced this corporate stranglehold firsthand during 22 years in public service. Political opponents weaponized this system during a campaign, using local media outlets to spread propaganda.
When my TV News professor told me, ‘Mike, what the media is doing to you is unethical—I’ve never seen that happen to an elected official before,’ it validated everything I was witnessing. His wife teaches Ethics in Journalism—a course I completed immediately after that election.
Mark Twain said it best: ‘If you don’t read the newspaper, you’re uninformed. If you read the newspaper, you’re misinformed.’ Ronald Reagan understood the antidote: ‘The person who agrees with you 80 percent of the time is a friend and an ally, not a 20 percent traitor.’
Don’t let the mainstream media continue to divide us with their bias and often emotionally charged headlines. After personally experiencing this manipulation and recognizing the desperate need for journalism free from corporate and partisan control, I created The Tennessee Ledger to give Tennesseans what those six corporations won’t—trusted, local, independent news that unites rather than divides.”
The Tennessee Ledger focuses on the 80% that unites us—not the 20% that divides us. We cover what matters most to Tennessee families—education, higher cost, healthcare, infrastructure, local schools and colleges, mental health and addiction services, community development, Tennessee State Parks, jobs, energy, and your neighborhood. Delivered with balance and without partisan spin.
Independent journalism. Tennessee voices. Truth. Fairness. Accountability. For Tennessee.
