Former CIA Officer Raises Alarming Theory About Rising Drone Sightings Amid Federal Dismissals
An ex-CIA officer has put forth a chilling theory regarding the increasing number of drones observed in the Northeastern skies, as federal officials label public concern as an “overreaction.”
Laura Ballman, a former CIA operations officer, urged the government to clarify the circumstances surrounding these mysterious drone sightings during a Saturday interview with Fox News Live. She speculated that the unsettling phenomena could be part of a “classified exercise” conducted by the Biden Administration.
“Given the comments from John Kirby, who stated that these objects are not acting illegally, along with recent op-eds discussing the need to enhance our detection systems, it makes me wonder if this is a classified test of either evasion or detection technology in urban settings,” Ballman explained. “I find it troubling that the federal government isn’t being more transparent about this. If I were advising them, I would recommend increased openness.

The unusual drone activity has unsettled residents in New Jersey and New York for nearly a month, with the first sighting reported on November 19. Since then, New Jersey alone has recorded approximately 1,000 drone sightings, while similar reports have emerged nationwide. Federal officials, however, have attributed these sightings to misidentified aircraft, such as helicopters or Cessna planes, asserting that they pose no danger to the public.
An FBI official echoed this narrative, downplaying the national concern during a call with senior Biden administration officials. “We’re working hard to trace the origins of these drone activities,” the official stated, adding, “But I think there has been a slight overreaction.”
Since the initial sighting in New Jersey, the FBI has received around 5,000 tips, with only 100 deemed worthy of further investigation.
A Department of Defense representative confirmed that the agency has not gathered intelligence indicating that the drones are linked to any foreign adversaries or that they possess malicious intent. “We have yet to identify the operators or their points of origin,” the official noted.
Some Republican lawmakers, citing sources with high-level security clearances, have suggested the drones might be connected to China, Iran, or Russia. However, the Pentagon has denied any foreign involvement, even as the drones have been spotted near U.S. military installations in New Jersey.
President Donald Trump and several Republican officials have called for the military to intercept the drones for inspection. “Mystery drone sightings all over the country. Can this really be happening without our government’s knowledge? I don’t think so!” Trump posted on Truth Social. “Let the public know, and now. Otherwise, shoot them down!”
