State officials mourning East TN Mayor Joe Brooks killed in motorcycle crash

State and local leaders are mourning the sudden passing of Claiborne County Mayor Joe Brooks, who died Friday night following a motorcycle accident in Union County.
According to preliminary reports from the Tennessee Highway Patrol, the 56-year-old mayor was traveling along State Route 33 around 11:00 p.m. when his motorcycle left the roadway while navigating a curve and struck a guardrail. Officials noted he was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
Mayor Brooks, a proud Navy veteran, had served as county mayor since August 2018 and was currently seeking re-election.
