WGNS – Celebrating 75 Years of Broadcast History in Rutherford County

Editor’s Note: Sunday evening January 2nd on WGNS Rutherford Magazine Show from at 5 until 6PM I’m excited to have legendary WGNS Bart Walker on discussing the history of the station. We will also highlight the new 100.5 FM antenna in Smyrna and LaVergne. The antenna is located just north of RUSH Trucking on Sanford Knob Hill. Many thanks to Rutherford County Commissioner Joe Gourley for letting us know the correct name. Joe once worked on design and deployment of PublicSafety simulcast radio system and helped design new heavy duty towers. The new antenna is an exciting opportunity for WGNS to better serve as ‘The Good Neighbor Station’ not only Smyrna and LaVergne, but south Nashville as well.

The station has impacted impacted Rutherford County in hundreds-if not thousands of ways, but often broadcast live from the former Sewart Air Force Base in Smyrna

WGNS first came on the air in Murfreesboro, TN on the night of December 31, 1946 and our first full day of being on the air was on January 1, 1947. Imagine all the news stories and history that has been heard by listeners over that time frame.

We invite you to turn back the clock with us and listen to a few vintage recordings, some dating back to 1947. Below is a link to a few broadcasts collected over the years…
