Troy Ross: Old Barn Wood and a New Beginning

Troy Ross had spent nearly two years trying to obtain wood from a particular old barn. His search eventually brought him to the workshop of Pastor Justin, who used reclaimed barn lumber to build furniture through Reclaimed America.

During their conversation, Troy noticed a large picture of Jesus made from six canvases. Justin explained how the artwork illustrated the danger of comparing our lives with others—and how individual lives could come together as part of God’s larger purpose.

Then Justin told him: “I don’t think you came by here for barn wood.”

 

 

Troy became emotional and opened up about his struggles. According to Justin’s account, Troy went home, discarded his drugs and alcohol, and began a changed life. At the time of the sermon, Justin said Troy had been sober for about eight years. He also recalled baptizing him.

Troy eventually obtained the barn wood. He began making wooden crosses and giving them away with his written testimony—a way to share the faith that had transformed his life.
