According to a recent Tennessean article Tennessee State Representative Jason Potts, a Democrat representing a portion of Nashville in the state House, has had enough of the legislature.

Potts, whose House District 59 covers the southeast corner of Davidson County, cited personal stress and alleged discrimination from the Republican super-majority as reasons he does not enjoy conducting legislative business at the Capitol. He also bemoaned what he sees as an insufficient part-time legislative salary that requires members to hold down other jobs.

He won’t seek reelection in 2022, he said in a interview.

“I’m so discriminated against,” Potts said.       “I’m not going to run again when I’m   discriminated against every day.”

This legislative session, Potts missed 21 of the 34 legislative days when the House held floor sessions, according to attendance data recorded by the clerk’s office.

That amounts to roughly 62% of floor sessions missed. The House clerk’s office doesn’t track committee attendance. Only eight of his absences were excused by the House speaker.
