Police arrest ‘thug’ who punched 84-year-old man

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — After a week-long search, Metro Nashville Police have identified and arrested a man accused of punching an 84-year-old victim in the face last month.

According to MNPD, 40-year-old Donald Oliver has been charged in connection with the June 24 assault outside a Shelby Avenue gas station. Police allege Oliver acted as a thug in the unprovoked attack.

Investigators said the victim and a 40-year-old female companion drove to the gas station so the woman could meet someone. Upon arrival, she approached another vehicle and began speaking with its occupants, which escalated into an argument.

Authorities said Oliver exited the vehicle, confronted the elderly man, and struck him in the face, causing serious injuries. Surveillance video later corroborated the victim’s account.

Police were able to confirm Oliver’s whereabouts after a vehicle he was known to drive was repeatedly captured by Dickson’s recently activated Flock camera system.
Oliver is facing an outstanding felony aggravated assault warrant, according to MNPD. He was taken into custody Friday afternoon in Dickson by TITANS detectives, working alongside the Dickson Police Department.
