La Vergne Celebrates America 250 with Flag-Raising Ceremony and Liberty Lap Color Walk

LA VERGNE, Tenn. — Community members gathered on Saturday, June 13, 2026, for the La Vergne America 250 Flag-Raising Ceremony and Liberty Lap Color Walk, a special event organized by the La Vergne Parks & Recreation to commemorate the upcoming 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.

The ceremony began at 9:00 a.m. and served as a reminder of the principles of freedom, self-government, and individual liberty that have shaped the United States since the Declaration was signed in 1776.

As America approaches its semiquincentennial in 2026, communities across the nation are reflecting on the sacrifices and vision of the nation’s founders. The America 250 initiative encourages citizens to learn about the country’s history, honor those who helped preserve freedom, and inspire future generations to carry forward the ideals upon which the nation was built.

“Today is about more than a walk or a ceremony. It is about honoring the ideals that have guided our nation for 250 years—freedom, opportunity, self-government, and the belief that ordinary citizens can accomplish extraordinary things when they work together.

As part of the America 250 celebration, communities across our country are reflecting on our shared history and looking ahead to the future. Here in La Vergne, we are proud to do our part by bringing neighbors together to celebrate the values that unite us as Americans,” La Vergne Mayor Jason Cole.

The flag-raising ceremony provided an opportunity for residents of all ages to pause and reflect on the meaning of the American flag and the freedoms it represents. Following the ceremony, participants took part in the Liberty Lap Color Walk, bringing families, neighbors, and community leaders together in a celebration of patriotism and civic pride.

The 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence is more than a historical milestone. It is a chance for Americans to remember the courage of those who pledged their lives, fortunes, and sacred honor to establish a new nation founded on the belief that all people are endowed with certain unalienable rights. Their commitment laid the foundation for a constitutional republic that continues to serve as a beacon of freedom around the world.
