I’ve always loved setting big goals at the beginning of each year. In fact, I am consistent about having my goals completed for the coming year, in seven different areas of my life, by November 14th of each preceding year. But recently I’ve been challenged by some people I love and trust about the necessity of approaching the new year in that manner. People whom I highly admire, who are kind and loving, and also very high achievers. Maybe it’s more about mindset than having a to-do list.
As I process and think about this more, I’m going back to my top 10 values and wondering if we just need a word of the year.
Episode #813 January 14, 2022 (Listen to Dan’s Podcast below)
Hi this is Dan Miller – and yes you’re listening to the 48 Days Radio show – where each week we take 48 minutes to dive into real-life questions about finding your passion, deciding what kind of life you want to live – and then finding or creating work that allows you to show up every day, excited to be able to do something that is meaningful, fulfilling – and profitable. This is where normal, indecision and ambiguity come to die. Welcome to the 48 Days Radio Show.
Questions:
I would LOVE to do a remote job or start my own home business. I am so scared of the financial aspect of it.
After much arguing with my husband, I am almost at the point of giving up but I feel deep down that I must go on.
Make a list of 20 ways you can tap into your skills and abilities in this area. Don’t walk away from what your skills and abilities have brought you so far. But be creative in the way that you do that so that you’re not locked into the traditional pattern.
I am in the process of launching a podcast called “Life’s Final Hour” which consists of interviewing people that have 6 months or less to live to learn life’s most important lesson.
That reminds me of the book I have mentioned here several times, The Top Regrets of the Dying, which actually falls in life with some of our discussion here today. Here are just a few:
- “I wish I’d had the courage to live a life true to myself, not the life others expected of me.”
- “I wish I hadn’t worked so hard.”
- “I wish I’d had the courage to express my feelings.”
- “I wish I had stayed in touch with my friends.”
- “I wish that I had let myself be happier.”

I want to get your insight on moving from being an employee to being a consultant.
I need to find a way to drive or grow my business without hiring additional help.
There are just a few ways to grow your income in a situation like this: increase your prices, increase your time, bring in help or take your area of expertise and figure out how to create residual, ongoing, creative income. I encourage you to not be so against hiring additional help. The money is in selling your services, not in doing the work. But if not, looking for ways to create residual income would be your best answer.
