The City of La Vergne has taken a significant step in its law enforcement leadership by announcing the appointment of its new police chief. This decision comes in the wake of the removal of Chief Burrel “Chip” Davis due to a departmental sex scandal.
Taking up the mantle is Christopher Moews, a seasoned law enforcement professional with nearly three decades of experience. Presently holding the rank of police captain in Milwaukee, Moews is set to assume his role as La Vergne’s police chief on September 6, according to an official statement from the city released on a Wednesday afternoon.
Chief Moews expressed his enthusiasm for this new phase in his career and his commitment to the La Vergne community. “I’m eager to embark on this new journey with the La Vergne Police Department. My foremost priorities include actively engaging with the community, rebuilding their trust, and fostering the growth and enhancement of the department,” stated Chief Moews. He added, “Through interactions with numerous members of the La Vergne Police Department and city leadership, I’ve been struck by their professionalism and dedication.

The approval for Moews’ employment agreement came from the La Vergne Board of Mayor and Aldermen on Tuesday. City Administrator Bruce Richardson emphasized the need for a resilient leader during this pivotal time. “Our aim was to find a capable individual who can lead us in reestablishing the trust of our citizens. Simultaneously, this individual should collaborate with our existing command team to provide direction to our department. Christopher Moews fits this role perfectly,” Richardson stated. He further conveyed, “These have been trying times for our city, the police department, and our dedicated officers. We believe that Chief Moews possesses the skills to chart these unfamiliar waters and rebuild the community’s faith in our law enforcement officers.”
