The Tennessee Ledger online news was created to inform Tennesseans about important issues facing our great state and community.Tennessee Ledger

The Tennessee Ledger will strive to be objective, which is the most important element in journalism. Most would agree that today’s modern state of journaism has been greatly influenced by politics and corporate self-interest.

The effort of a journalist should be to separate oneself from one’s own views and opinions and in the least judgmental way. Unfortunately that is not the reality of journalism today.

Edward R. Murrow was a leader in the founding of modern journalism. Murrow never believed this craft should only exist to provide information. Instead he viewed it as a way to inspire minds and possibly change hearts, thus creating a better path for the country. Murrow once said, “To be persuasive we must be believable; to be believable we must be credible; credible we must be truthful.”

Walter Cronkite, an American journalist and pioneer of TV news programming who was known as ‘the most trusted man in America.once said, “Journalism is what we need to make democracy work.”
Democracy will not work if the news is presented as fact only to have a false narritave and false light to attack politcial candidates or further a corporation’s interest. Sadly, journalism today seems to have lost its way.
