LEBANON, TN – Dan W. Evins opened the first Cracker Barrel Old Country Store on September 19, 1969, located on Highway 109 in Lebanon, TN.And yes, even then the corn bread was made from scratch.
The first Cracker Barrel Old Country Store has found a new home at Fiddlers Grove at the Wilson County Fairgrounds.
The construction crews took about five hours to transport the historic building. The old country ctore was moved from its original home at the corner of Leeville Pike and Highway 109 late Sunday into early Monday.
The roughly 94-foot by 40-foot building was slow and steady down moved along the 10-mile trip.
Cracker Barrel Expanded to 13 Locations
People seemed more than pleased with the cooking, and by 1977, Dan Evins and his investors (most of whom were local friends and associates) had opened 13 stores from Kentucky to Georgia.
Cracker Barrel has estimated that the original store closed in early 1984, just before the company opened another location in Lebanon the same year. Cracker Barrel had leased the property the original store was at, corporate office representatives stated.
